about

This week MalLabel Music is bringing the tribal business to you with some deep Bass vibes from one of our favorites in experimentalism. From San Francisco, California, Orkidz is bringing the Savannah home to your ears.

Always ready to deliver a world class and well travelled sound, Orkidz delivers an odyssey to lands far and wide with each release. In his efforts to bring the world to your senses this avant-garde project wraps it up in an intricate web of bass and glitches to evolve the sound into a truly unique auditory experience. This being only one of three separate projects this talented musician is a part of and his only solo project, he makes the most the opportunity to achieve something personally inspiring in his artistic direction and delivers a particularly exotic encounter with each piece.

His newest EP is no exception as Obrigado, which means thank you as said by a man in Portuguese, brings the deep jungle tribes straight to you with some fresh World Beat and Trap vibes from Brazil to North Africa. 'City of Men' opens with a few tosses of change to the ground as the street drumming builds up to a fat 808 driving traditional indigenous vocal cuts to the beat. 'Favela' which is Portuguese for a slum in Brazil takes a rhythmic journey through the streets complete with the hardships that lie therein. Finally, 'Mogador', named after a city in Morocco later renamed Essaouira and one of six fortresses built by Manuel I of Portugal, keeps the beats bumpin'. History and Bass, what's not to love?
