about

To open up their 2012 release calendar, MalLabel Music has selected a swank EP from prominent Colorado glitch hop bad man S.P.E.C.T.R.E. The Schism EP, out January 24th worldwide, sways and saunters with originality and character that S.P.E.C.T.R.E. has come to be known for through such industry shaking output as his “Bad Girls Go To Hell” EP on True Movement in 2010.

The EP opens up with a dominating title track. Crammed with luscious, sweet analog synth play reminiscent of Boards of Canada, and swingy, glitched-out breakbeats, “Schism” opens up the EP with notable intelligence and movement. “Hurt Me,” the second track on the EP, follows up with a more sharp, grindy glitch vibe, with razor blade slashing grain table lines and robotically undulating drum palpitations. Next up is “Love,” a bouncy, vibrant, boisterous track built around a sample of The Grateful Dead’s “Loser” that closes out the fabulously orchestrated original material on the EP.

The remixes on the EP come from the labs of renowned kindred Colorado programmer Samples and kick ass California/Utah upstart duo Trowa. First, Samples takes a spin with reworking the title track of the EP, which he shifts into a high-energy dance floor shaker. Following up is free download of Trowa’s refix of “Hurt Me,” which Trowa remolds into a straight forward, power packed dub sure to send bodies in motion.

With the Schism EP, MalLabel Music cracks open the first of what is sure to be a prolific and diverse array of amazing releases in 2012. In just two years, MalLabel has enjoyed a growing notoriety for both its volume of material as well as its remarkable multiplicity and range of talented artists. S.P.E.C.T.R.E, Samples, and Trowa are a welcome addition to the already established lineup of amazing musical acts who have released material under the MalLabel banner.
