about

This week MalLabel Music is taking you way past the shallow end and dropping you off into the depths as San Francisco, California's, Mike Forst shows us what friendly apparitions will greet us as we explore the cool and majestic abyss.

Mike Forst has never had trouble finding a voice for other people, products or ideas and as such he uses this sonic wisdom professionally to create everything from raw noise to the deepest compositions. When it comes to his own music however, he tends to feel as if he is still finding that voice, but after spending some time with a collection of his pieces I can tell you that while he may be looking at it like a task to be accomplished, it seems quite clear that the journey is quite a thing to behold. From fat Electro House to some UK style Dub and now this, it shows that with experience comes mastery, regardless of genre.

Look, The Ghost is a testament to the pieces of everyone we've ever known and loved and so many of those we've never met that shine through our lives in so many different ways. It's easy to notice the traits passed down through your family when someone tells you that you remind them of a relative that has passed and it is here that you can see their ghost as clear as day. But what you may not see are the ghosts of the thousands of people you've interacted with that have affected your life in meaningful ways, whether or not they still live. When you recognize this, death seems almost trivial, outweighed by every piece of everyone you've known that guides you long after they've gone.
