about

With his potent and uniquely recognizable prowess for signature mid-range tones, he is the king of subtractive synthesis. He is the most remarkably illustrious robotic rascal. And, without a doubt, he is the reigning champion of inebriated automation domination. He is the man, the myth, and the legend, and his name is Stagga. Weighing in at infinity, this commanding creator of corpulent bass lines should be nothing less than an essential ingredient in any low frequency lover’s tune library. And his excellence has graced Bay Area underground favorite, MalLabel Music, with the infectiously freaky Hypnotize EP.

Relying specifically on MalLabel residents for remix support, label director Mal Harper has secured a surefire winner with Stagga’s undeniably sterling opus. Without a doubt, the title track is a foolproof dance floor power magnet. When this track is dropped by any DJ with the aid of a healthy sound system and a darkened space to get down, anybody with boogie shoes on in a thousand yard radius will be powerless to resist the temptation to leap in terpsichorean frenzy.

The remixes, each by one of MalLabel’s handpicked stable of resident artists, all comprise a host of various styling. Sultry vixen Skulltrane’s mix supplies the tune with a twist of juke-like swagger. El Diablo, veteran of the Bay Area underground scene, provides a remix that is puffily saturated with tube driven warmth and a coat of rich analog leads. Purple warrior princess Lotus Drops’s remix portrays a deeper, dubbier vibe that is as smart as it is inventively active. And, last but certainly not least, Zombie-J bends Hypnotize to his will of mathematics and decadently intriguing glitch-step.

Another day, another dollar, and today’s dollar goes to bet that anybody who is dying to get down to some amazing bass and beats, who knows how to recognize a gem, and who knows the immense talent of UK born and based bass mechanic Stagga will want this entire EP. Each of the remixes are worth consuming on their own, and the originality and energy of the title track make it a must-have. Join MalLabel in their never ending quest for the most satiating catalogue of underground bass music this small planet has ever heard.
