about

This week MalLabel Music is serving a fresh cup overflowing with the sweet taste of the sublime as Vancouver, Washington's, Too Much shows us clear as a bell that Electronic Music can't stop the Jazz from breaking through all the rules.

Now here is a fellow that never gave a care to any formatting. One that feels that if it ain't broke, well... it's probably not all that interesting. Too Much is an enthusiast of the broken beat to be sure, and one perhaps that spent many a year studying one of the best things to ever come out of the 20's. It's rare to hear such true Jazz flavor in Electronic Music and even more rare to hear it done with such precision. To keep such a cadence with such wild swings in the groove while maintaining that perfect mix timing is a balancing act that few could ever achieve so flawlessly.

His newest EP, Coffee opens with the most superb reflection of my above statements with a stylish mystique in the tender and glassy, 'Love'. Following up, 'Tea' takes us from the ambiance of a music box and a hot cup of relaxation into a glitchy realm of liquid melodies over intriguing bass manipulations. Next, 'Sugar and Cream' sweetens the pot with some wobble and spice as retro pads drive this explorative ballad upward. Finally, this brings us to, 'And Out The Door We Go' with a full vocal ensemble taking the profoundly feeling nature of the EP to a bitter-sweet close backed by an instrumental version. This one's something different for all Jazz lovers and quite frankly anyone who just likes good music.
