about

This week MalLabel Music is going abroad to bring you a little bit of that “Je ne sais quoi” as Lyon, France', Uzul shows us a little bit of what is only known in the underground as his style is so fresh his own country doesn't even get it yet.

As the electronic backbone of the french band, Kaly Live Dub, Uzul has decided to go full monty with his sound and drop all of his mastery of synth texturing into a solo, live Industrial-Dub project. Despite the words 'French Dubstep' being almost an oxymoron, this isn't any ordinary bass music even by UK or West Coast Bass standards. His finesse in blending musical intonations from his experience being the digital counterpart in a live instrument band and his proficiency with sound design and sampling allows him to create an experience like no other, live and evolving in the moment for eager audiences.

His newest EP, Afrobits is a perfect example of taking a simple theme and through imaginative, musical dexterity creating an engaging and unique experience. Opening up with 'Voodoo' and it's creepy subtle rising energy, the EP let's us know the party's in the back with the bass up front. Up next we've got 'South Tribes' giving us a demonstration of how hype meets subtlety in this rapidly evolving monster and finally, 'Earth Beat' takes those tribal tones and takes the glitch machines to them to round off this trio of goods. Dark and menacing Bass Music? Yeah, we got that.
