MalLabel Music is back again, celebrating the release of one of their more eclectic, up and coming producers. Trevor Kelly is taking the bay by storm, working his magic with many local acts that show his true talent and versatility. It seems that everything he touches turns into musical gold, and his new release showcases just that. The LP is titled Roulette, and is a musical journey that is very reminiscent of some of your favorite video games. Each track is mesmerizing, holding you in it’s grasp with each bassline, so you know it’s no gamble finding a floor shaker.

With this release, Trevor embraces the futuristic direction that bass music is taking. The opening track, ‘Cheat Code,’ starts out slow and sultry, giving just a little bit more as the track builds. The bass wobbles and driving bassline make this heavily computerized track sexy and seductive. ‘Chinese Finger Trap’ is an enchanting and mesmerizing, holding you in it’s bass laden grasp. The percussion sound and piano beats, combined with a hip-hop feel, seduce your ears. Continuing on this futuristic journey with ‘Dabs,’ Trevor brings on comforting childhood memories of video games long forgotten. ‘Irie’ incorporates reggae sounds that transport you to the tropical islands of Jamaica. ‘Pull Fruuu’ begins low key, steadily climbing towards the buildup all while maintaining the downtempo sound. ‘Re rinsed’ takes on an out-of-this-world feel with all the bleeps and bloops, all while still keeping it on the low, chiller side. ‘Uh blunt’ rounds out this LP, segueing from the computerized feel to take on a Bollywood type of feel. This track has a hard hitting tribal sound, adding in the funky basslines and womps along the way.

Each track on this album showcases the direction that Trevor Kelly’s taking his music and each song can stand on their own. But when they’re compiled together and put on one album, the combined effect is explosive. This EP displays Trevor’s innovation, attention to detail and genuine talent.
