about

MalLabel Music has some funky-fresh double team action this week by two of the Bay Area's big room Funk junkies, My Pet Monster and No Rush.

These boys have been on a tear with this already being their second release of 2016 and we're okay with it. When you put two fire producers already hell bent on flooding the world with solid vibes on their own in one room, you know it's gonna be the hotness. A fusion of My Pet Monster's signature Swing and Bass into the arcady, low end Vaporwave styles of No Rush has spawned some of the slap-bassiest Funk-Hop this side of the Mississippi.

Their new EP Operation: Funk is as legit to the Funk as it gets with a little Glitch-Hop in all the right places. Opening slowly with 'Don't Knock The Hustle' we get a very deliberate and soulful stomper while in 'Catfish' the flautist takes us on a walk down Funk street to fancy places with new school basses. The title track gets a lot more into Glitch-Hop territory with some grimier bass driving that Funk home as Grid Division sections off a portion for himself and takes it on a fantasy ride through a Funk-Bass wonderland. Finally, 'Collard Greens' keeps that vibe alive while Charles Darius takes his trumpet for a ride. If ever there was a Funk EP for the new generation, this is it.
